Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup cold butter, cubed
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ¼ cup chopped fresh herbs (chives, parsley, etc.)
- ¾ cup milk
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
3. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
4. Fold in cheese and herbs until evenly distributed.
5. Gradually stir in milk just until a shaggy dough forms, do not overmix.
6. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface, knead 2-3 times, and pat into a 1-inch thick circle.
7. Cut into 8 wedges and place on prepared baking sheet.
8. Bake for 15–20 minutes until golden brown and fragrant.
Notes
- Use cold butter for the flakiest texture.
- Do not overmix the dough or scones will turn out tough.
